Live Unchained

We would like to share with you a project that we have been working on for some time now and is still in the making.

Live Unchained is a collaborative global arts project for black women across the African diaspora (that includes African American women as well as black women in South America, central America, the Caribbean, Europe and throughout the continent of Africa--and well, anywhere in the world). We showcase women's audio, written and visual creative works. We feature their work in Live Unchained events such as art exhibits, film screenings performances and discussions. Our goal is to develop a collection of these astounding audio, written and visual creations in the form of a book with a DVD and CD insert.

This project involves a multi-media approach to include diverse modes of personal and artistic expression. Some women capture moments with ink and paper, while others use imagery, sound and movement. To acknowledge this complexity, we chose to seek out and accept various mediums of creative expression. Women can submit non-fiction writing, personal essays, poetry, short stories, music, digital art, comics, live performances and whatever else they choose to impress us with. We organize these submissions thematically under the categories: Longing for Freedom, Defining Freedom and Freedom Expressed.
