My conversation with J’Nell Jordan reminded me that a woman should never have to hide her power just to make others feel comfortable. J’Nell is the talented painter who contributed an original print of Warsan Shire to our “Terrifying, Strange & Beautiful” crowdfunding campaign. She believes in simply doing what you were meant to do, not shrinking yourself or your dreams, regardless of what others misunderstand or criticize. If your creative passion, joy, awkwardness or accomplishments terrify them (whoever “they” are), be terrifying anyway.

In this inspiring interview, we had a lot of fun learning what makes J’Nell terrifying, strange and beautiful. You’ll see that for both of us, it also involves the freedom to be awkward.

Many of J’Nell’s paintings capture people dancing with big smiles in club scenes; the setting is naturally dark, but her subjects are bright and energetic. We also discussed how J’Nell arrived at her party vibe aesthetic, new projects and what it means to live unchained.

J’Nell’s beautiful print of Warsan Shire is available with a contribution of only $200! You will not see this limited edition print anywhere else. Get it for yourself or someone special at www.indiegogo.com/liveunchained.

Oh yeah, when J’Nell referred to herself as “awkward” I felt so at ease speaking with another member of my tribe. Here we are working on the “strange” in Terrifying, Strange & Beautiful.
